To reach Sisal from Merida, travelers pass through the city of Hunucma, the municipal seat. There are two main ways to get there from Merida. One option is to take the road toward Tetiz and then the deviation toward Hunucma. From Hunucma to Sisal there is a single main road.

A newer route from western Merida. It reaches Hunucma and then continues on the single main road to Sisal.

The older road passes through several towns before reaching Hunucma. Travel time is usually similar.

The second option is the older road, passing through Caucel and Ucu before arriving in Hunucma. Travel time is usually similar. Both routes begin from the western side of Merida's ring road.

Traveling by private car

Visitors from outside the region often rent a car and choose the route that best fits their travel plans. Outside Merida, gas stations are limited along this route, mainly in Hunucma and Sisal.

Before leaving

  • Check fuel before leaving Merida or Hunucma.
  • Bring water, especially during hot months.
  • Allow extra time during holidays, weekends or high season.
  • Avoid blocking narrow streets when parking in town.
  • Do not drive motor vehicles onto the sand or beach.
