Sisal is a small community on the northwestern coast of Yucatan, about 53 km from the city of Merida, within the municipality of Hunucma. The drive from the capital usually takes between 50 and 70 minutes. Many residents are connected to fishing and local trades. Although it is a modest town, in recent years it has seen improvements in services and a gradual increase in visitors.

Tourism has grown steadily, especially during vacation seasons. Two decades ago Sisal was not commonly seen as a tourist destination in the same way it is today; many visitors came from Merida and nearby communities. Its quiet atmosphere, beach, food and natural surroundings have made it more visible to travelers looking for a slower coastal experience.

Sisal is not only a beach stop. It is also a place with history, local traditions, seafood restaurants, coastal wetlands and landscapes that change with the wind, the light and the seasons.
